The New Jersey Peer Coalition (NJPC) is our state’s statewide, peer-led membership organization, dedicated to supporting people with lived experience in their recovery. NJPC exists to empower individuals by providing education, skill-building, and advocacy tools that help people understand their rights, explore personal and system-level options, and create meaningful change in their own lives and across the mental health system in New Jersey.
Through empowerment-focused trainings, monthly membership meetings, and an annual statewide conference, NJPC members strengthen their ability to speak up about the issues that people in the mental health community face every day. NJPC members actively raise awareness by serving on local, state, and national advisory boards, committees, and councils—ensuring that people with lived experience have a direct voice in shaping mental health policy, services, and systems.
NJPC’s monthly membership and board meetings create a supportive environment for peers to exchange ideas, share concerns, and discuss the system that impacts their daily lives. Topics include upcoming legislation, media representation, education, and other timely issues. These meetings also provide a valuable forum where state officials and service leaders can speak directly with people who use mental health services—opening pathways for innovation, transparency, and genuine collaboration.
Each year, NJPC hosts its Annual New Jersey Peer Coalition Conference, bringing together peers for a day of learning, connection, and empowerment. Participants attend workshops on current issues, build advocacy and wellness skills, and share ideas and resources.
NJPC also strengthens statewide peer advocacy through an email alert system, ensuring that members receive timely updates on important issues and developments affecting the mental health community.
At its core, NJPC is powered by the belief that every person with lived experience deserves respect, inclusion, and the chance to help shape the systems that affect their lives.
